If you’ve ever wondered what Pilates is or why so many people swear by it, you’re not alone. This low-impact, full-body workout has become one of the most popular forms of exercise worldwide, and for good reason.
What Is Pilates?
Pilates is a form of exercise that focuses on controlled movements, core strength, and strengthening the whole body. It’s often described as a mind-body workout because it emphasizes the connection between physical movement and mental focus.
Developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century, the method was originally designed for rehabilitation and strengthening the body after injury. Today, Pilates is practiced worldwide in two main forms, on the Mat and on equipment such as the Reformer.
Our Mat Pilates classes
We work with and without small equipment such as resistance bands, hogs, blocks or balls.
Cerisport Studio has been bringing Pilates to our local community since 1999!
The Core Principles of Pilates
Joseph Pilates designed his method around six key principles that still guide modern practice:
~ Concentration
~ Control
~ Centering
~ Flow
~ Precision
~ Breath
These principles help turn every session into a balanced blend of strength, stability, and mindfulness. The benefits of Pilates Pilates may look gentle, but it’s incredibly effective.

Who Can Do Pilates?
The great thing about Pilates is that it’s suitable for almost everyone — regardless of age, fitness level, or experience.
Whether you’re recovering from an injury, looking to complement your athletic training, or just wanting to move better and feel stronger, Pilates can be adapted to your needs.
What to Expect in our Pilates Class or one to one sessions
Our classes last for 60 minutes and begin with gentle warm-up movements.
You’ll then perform a series of controlled exercises focusing on your breath and core engagement.
Often the class wraps up with a few minutes of relaxation.
You will always feel better at the end of the session than when you arrived and we can assure you of the best teaching and our attention so that you always get the best out of your class. We can modify exercises to suit you and your level if need be.
